With the outbreak of the 1848 revolution Sophie Anderson traveled with her family to America, where the family settled in Cincinnati, Ohio 1849-1854. There Sophie Gengembre Anderson began her painting career doing portraits in oil, figure work, illustrations and exhibiting at the Western Art Union. | In 1860 the couple visited Pennsylvania and exhibited at the National Academy. Around 1871 Sophie Gengembre Anderson moved to Capri, Italy because of ill-health. Eventually Sophie Gengembre Anderson returned to England and lived in Falmouth. While working for Louis Prang & Co. Sophie Gengembre Anderson produced the popular 'Prattling Primrose' and 'Dotty Dimple' oil paintings. Sophie Anderson's technique was excellent and Sophie Gengembre Anderson was quite adept at depicting fabrics and drapery with outstanding light effects. | |||||||
