Eugene de Blaas BiographyAustrian Academic Classical painter born 1843 - died 1931 Also known as: Eugene von Blaas, Eugenio de Blaas.
De Blaas lived in Venice, where he was a professor at the
Accademia, and it was there that he met JW in 1880. |

His colorful and rather theatrical period images of Venetian society, e.g. On the Balcony (1877; Private Collection), were quite different to JW's delicate pastels and etchings of the courtyards, balconys and canals of modern Venice, although at times JW
did show a similar concern for anecdotal detail.
